Summary & Overall Impression

A&O City Hostel is the go-to choice for budget-minded guests who value comfort and quiet over a buzzing social scene.

Starting from an affordable7€ per night,A&O offersexcellent value for money. However, keep in mind that an extra charge applies for bed linens (around 3€).

Despite a few downsides, such as thepillow cleanliness and the bed linen fee, A&O's cost-effectiveness and convenience make it anappealing option for no-frills travelersprioritizing a tranquil environment and workspace facilities.

Location

  • Slightly outside the heart of Budapest but stillcentrally located, it's a stone's throw away from the vibrant Jewish district and convenient transport links.

Noise Levels

  • While you may hear some noise from other guests, thestreet noise is minimalat this hostel. It issituated near a peaceful one-lane intersectionthat is not frequented by buses or trolleys.

Check-in

  • The receptionists at the hostel werehelpful, friendly, and efficient.
  • There arealways 1-2 receptionists available 24/7, which made the check-in process very easy.
  • You have to pay a3 euro "bed linen fee"or bring your own.

Vibe & People

  • This place has the appearance andambiance of a hotel, but offersprices similar to a hostel.
  • Although there is some socializing, it leans more towards ahotel atmosphere.
  • It is asuitable choice for a short business tripor if you plan onbeing out exploringfor most of the day and night.

Room

  • The rooms areminimalistic and clean, with a top-notchprivate bathroomand storage "cage".
  • Despite not feeling large, the room has a spacious enough middle area.

Bed

  • The bed isdecent, butlacks a curtainfor privacy. It has a convenientstorage compartmenton the side, as well as anight lampand anelectrical outlet.
  • The bed had a solidmetal frameandwasn't squeaky.
  • Mypillow was dirty, and I had to replace it, but I'm sure it was anisolated incidentbecause the hygiene standards at the hostel were excellent overall.

Locker

  • You can store your items in asecure storage "cage", but you will need tobring your own padlock or purchase oneat the reception desk.

Bathroom

  • The room has aprivate shower and toiletthat are separate. Although small, both areclean and well-maintained.
  • The hotel'sshower is exceptionaland the best I've experienced among Budapest hostels.

Kitchen

  • The kitchen isnear the elevatorand can be hard to find. It'snot very bigbut seems to have everything you need, except an oven. Keep in mind that it's the only kitchen in this huge hostel, so itcan get crowded.

Miscellaneous

Cool Workspace

  • The hostel's lounge has a fantasticlaptop workspace, a designatedbreakfast area, and ample space to relax and unwind.
  • The (optional) breakfast provided seemed to consist of generic and uninspiring hotel fare, which I found to be overpriced at 8€.
